Storytelling Competition
Rules & Regulations
Who May Participate
- This competition is open to all students currently enrolled in a primary school in Singapore, be it a local or foreign school.
- There are two competition categories:
- Lower Primary category – for Primary 1 to Primary 3 students (or their equivalent)
- Upper Primary category – for Primary 4 to Primary 6 students (or their equivalent)
How to Participate
- Students must select two different stories to tell at the competition – one for the qualifying round and another for the Finals, if they are shortlisted.
- Each story must be about a hero from one of the many communities that call Singapore home, e.g. Singapore's Lim Nee Soon, Eunos Abdullah, G. Govindasamy and Professor Ernest Monteiro, India's Mahatma Gandhi, Philippines' Jose Rizal, Thailand's King Chulalongkorn, Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh, etc. These heroes must be from a community different from that of the participant's.
- Participants may not invent a story although they may improvise and tell the story in their own style. Research for these tales may be conducted online, in the libraries, etc.
- All participants who are shortlisted for the Finals will be required to submit a copy of their research material, including their sources, for both their stories to the Organisers.
- Each participant would have between 5 – 7 minutes to narrate their chosen story. Contestants may opt to use actions, props or costumes, at their own expense, to help to bring their stories to life.
