Every year, both Singaporeans and visitors look forward to the Food Festival, when the nation’s favourite pastime is celebrated with a degustation of gastronomic and culinary festivities. This year, Peranakan cuisine takes centrestage, with unique flavours that come from a fusion of Chinese and Malay cooking methods and ingredients.
Clarke Quay Food Street
The historic Read Bridge in the heart of Clarke Quay will morph into a culinary wonderland that will be the gourmand’s delight. There will be more than 30 stalls serving up true-blue local dishes like Singapore classics from chicken rice to laksa, satay and exquisite Peranakan delicacies.

Singapore River Market
Take a leisurely stroll along the Singapore River and browse through the stalls of the Singapore River Market. Pick up hand-crafted and ethnic dresses and accessories, aroma therapy oils and incense and Peranakan dessert treats.

Nonya Mobile
Gourmet food on wheels. The Nonya Mobile will see fully equipped kitchens roving around Singapore’s prime locations like Orchard and City Hall, with chefs doing live cooking demonstrations. Expect favourites like fragrant leaf-wrapped rice dumplings called bak chang, ang ku kueh - traditional glutinous rice cakes with bean paste or peanut filling, and the famous festive pastry - pineapple tarts. You can also discover the enigmatic charms of the mysterious buah keluak, a black nut used in a traditional Peranakan chicken curry.

Beauty & The Feast at the The Peranakan Museum
A line-up of 8 Peranakan chefs whip up a feast of 30 dishes of nonya classics in the glamorous setting of the Peranakan Museum. While you eat, you will also enjoy a parade of beautiful models clad in the elegant attire of the traditional nonya and their elaborate jewellery.

Longest Peranakan Buffet Line
Be part of the longest buffet line spanning the whole of Read Bridge for the closing ceremony of the Singapore Food Festival. Sample from up to 100 Peranakan dishes in this unique experience beneath the night sky.

Hands on with the Culinary Treasures
After tasting fabulous Peranakan dishes, make it a lasting experience by learning how to make them at home. Sign up for the culinary workshops by Peranakan Culinary Treasures, who will share their family’s secret recipes with you.
Violet Oon, the doyenne of Peranakan cooking, will show you a few Peranakan mainstays right on the Singapore River. You’ll go home equipped with the know-how to whip out an entire Peranakan meal. Dishes you’ll learn include roti jala (lace pancakes), chicken or beef curry, banana gula melaka and coconut sauce.

Peter Wee, a leading authority on Peranakan culture, demonstrates his cooking prowess at the Katong Antique House, a museum-store he owns in the heart of Katong, an original Peranakan enclave. You will learn how to make classics like Buah paya rempah titek (papaya soup with a piquant pepperish flavour); tohay, a salted and fermented condiment of ground baby shrimp processed with rice and red rice grains; babi tohay, a very special dish of pork stewed with tohay.

A Multi-Cultural Gastronomic Experience
This year's festival is also complemented by the best of other ethnic cuisines in Chinatown, Kampong Glam and Little India. Expect a slew of activities from heritage food tasting sessions, culinary competitions, live cooking demonstrations to some late-night dining experiences like the Chinatown’s Super Supper Madness.
